The directorate of Advertising Visual publicity (DAVP) is that the nodal agency to undertakes multi-media advertising and publicity for the varied Ministries and Departments of government of india. some of the Autonomous Bodies also routes their advertisements through DAVP. As a services bureau it endeavours to speaks at grass roots level on be half of various Central Governments Ministries.
The origin of DAVP may be traced to the days of the World War-II. immediately when the outs-break of Second world war, the erstwhile governments of india appointed a Chief Press advisor. Besides alternatives things, advertising was also the responsibility of the Chief Press advisors. A post of Advertising advisors was created in June 1941 under the Chief Press advisors. this is wherever DAVP has its roots. On March 1, 1942, the Advertising consultants office became the Advertising Branch of the Departments of informations & Broadcasting. Following the growth in its scopes, functions and activities, this Advertising unit was declared an attached office of the Ministry of information & Broadcasting on october one, 1955.
The office also assumed the name of board of directors of Advertising & Visual Publicity (DAVP). DAVP was further declared as Head of a Departments on April four, 1959. By virtues of this declaration, financial and the administratives powers were delegated to the DAVP.
